Systematizing Financial Management with the United States Marine Corps
In my role as Fiscal Chief for the Battalion, I transformed a cumbersome, error-prone financial reconciliation process into an efficient, highly accurate system using innovative technology. By self-teaching database management and overcoming significant technical challenges, I developed a solution that saved time, increased financial accuracy, and was eventually adopted across the Marine Corps, earning me the Navy Achievement Medal Bronze Star.
Error Prone Manual Reconciliation
The weekly process of manually reconciling accounts involved two people spending four and a half days reviewing each line item against local records, resulting in frequent inaccuracies and delayed financial reporting.
Inability to Fully Use Funding
This labor-intensive process led to financial discrepancies of tens of thousands of dollars by the fiscal year's end, preventing the battalion from utilizing its funds effectively.
